Talking about safe sex
How and when...
It’s not easy to talk about safe sex. When and how do you start out? ‘Er, um, what would you think about a condom?’ is not the most exciting opening sentence if you are having sex with a person for the first time.
Here are a few tips that may be helpful:
- Think in advance about how and when you want to start talking about safe sex.
- If you make this decision before you start having sex, it is easier to put it into practice.
- Be up front about the fact that you don’t want to catch any diseases. This is not a question of not trusting someone, you’re just saying where it’s at. Besides, in this way you show respect for yourself and for your partner.
- "I never do it without one" is a clear statement without mentioning any ailments. Your partner will understand what you are talking about.
- Simply grab a condom and put it on yourself or your partner!
- Make sure you always have a supply of condoms, even if you are not expecting to have sex with anyone.
